DEBORAH

“One morning we woke up and there was a letter and it said that all of my support (DLA) was being cut which meant Pete couldn’t get any money for being my carer.. money was running out and at the time we didn’t know what would happen.”

Meet Deborah, in her 50’s she had to undergo an innovative surgical procedure on her brain which left her wheelchair bound until 2 years after, unfortunately after going through this she then suffered 2 strokes which took away her independence meaning her husband had to leave his job to look after her. When one morning she received a letter saying she would no longer be receiving a disability allowance they were left to live off savings until they could try and win it back through a long and arduous appeal process and made to feel like benefit scroungers despite their needs being genuine.
